In April-May 2019, the famous Italian journalist, writer and public figure Giulietto Chiesa visited Vyatka State University twice.
The main activities of Signor Chiesa in Kirov were to promote the expansion of economic relations of the Kirov region and Italy, as well as educational activities at VyatSU. Giulietto Chiesa’s lectures and seminars became part of the educational process for humanitarian students.
During the meeting with the authoritative Western expert in the field of international politics, the rector of VyatSU Valentin Pugach spoke about possible areas of cooperation of Italian business with the university and the region. The meeting participants discussed specific steps to establish contacts between entrepreneurs of Northern Italy and the Kirov region, as well as the benefits of creating a foreign business support center in Kirov.
During classes and meetings with students and staff of VyatSU, Chiesa analyzed the current international situation, in particular the increased threat of international terrorism due to the increase in migrants in Europe, and predicted the prospects for a response increase in the activity of right-wing extremists.
Students and teachers discussed with Giulietto Chiesa the background of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 in the United States and the tragic events in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Journalist Chiesa worked in South Ossetia shortly after the military conflict and saw its consequences with his own eyes.
The conversation of students and teachers with Mr. Chiesa went beyond the educational process: there were many people who wanted to ask questions and to express their opinions.
