On May 26, Vyatka State University hosted an open lecture dedicated to our outstanding fellow countryman - Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Stepanovich Konev
The lecture became part of the All-Russian military-patriotic educational action "Knowledge. Heroes", which was initiated by the "Knowledge" society, and our university became a regional platform for its holding. Andrey Anatolyevich Mashkovtsev, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of History and Political Sciences, spoke about the heroic merits of Marshal Konev.
Speaking about Marshal I. S. Konev, Andrei Mashkovtsev revealed little-known facts of the commander’s early biography related to his participation in the First World War and the Civil War, as well as his stay as commander of the 57th Special Corps in Mongolia in the pre-war period. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of the role of Marshal Konev in achieving victory in the Great Patriotic War. The participation of the commander in the defense of Moscow, in the tank battle on the Kursk Bulge, the defeat of the Wehrmacht troops near Kiev during the Korsun-Shevchenko operation of 1944, in the liberation of the countries of Eastern Europe from fascism and in the Berlin operation was shown.
Andrei Mashkovtsev's lecture became part of a large educational work to popularize historical knowledge and preserve historical memory, which is being conducted by the Department of History and Political Sciences of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Vyatka State University. In addition to educational tasks, this work has an important educational goal - the development of a sense of citizenship and patriotism among students of our university.
It should be noted that the lecture about our outstanding fellow countryman is timed to coincide with the visit to Vyatka State University of the commander’s granddaughter, Elena Gelievna Koneva, who will speak at the Engineering Institute (Preobrazhenskaya, 41) on May 29 at 18.00 as part of the Lectures at the Polytechnical project.
