From September 23 to October 7, students and graduates of the VyatSUfrom the search group "Torch" took part in the autumn stage of the All-Russian "Watch of Memory" to search for soldiers of the Red Army who were killed and missing during the Great Patriotic War.
Six people took part in the detachment's work, the remains of two Red Army soldiers who were killed in April-May 1942, 4 km from the village of Davydovo in the Starorussky district of the Novgorod region, were discovered and exhumed.
Old Russa was occupied by the Nazis one and a half months after the outbreak of the war. In this place, protracted battles took place to defeat the demyan grouping of the enemy. In the forests and marshes of the Starorussky district, thousands of Red Army soldiers were killed. The remains of many of them were not buried.
The autumn stage of "Watch of Memory" is a kind of intelligence, preparation for the main spring stage of the search work. The soldiers of the detachment, based on information from combat logs, operational reports, combat reports, outlined a work plan for the spring of 2018.

Search detachment "Torch" of Vyatka State University has existed since 2000. It is a part of the Kirov regional public youth search organization "Duty". As a result of the 16-year-old work of the detachment, the remains of 595 dead and missing soldiers of the Red Army were found and solemnly buried, the names of more than 20 Red Army soldiers were established.
