The meeting on the topic of magic was held within the project “Conversations about Russian literature” at VyatSU.

On December 19, Ksenia Litsareva, the Dean, gave a lecture to Kirov citizens titled “Miracles Happen! The magic of New Year's Eve in Russian literature” at the Faculty of Philology and Media Communications within the project “Conversations on Russian Language at VyatSU”,.

Listeners learned Christmastide stories about evil spirits, divination and festivities of the Russian people in the period from Christmas to Epiphany. Many national traditions and stories are reflected in books, in the Christmas story genre in particular.

Ksenia Litsareva traced the history of the development of this literary genre, its formation in Tsarist Russia, oblivion during the Soviet period and revival in our days. Also, students learned about tradition of decorating the Christmas tree for the New Year.

Christmas poems declaimed by associate professor of the Russian language, culture of speech and teaching methods Tatiana Petrus and 5th year student Kirill Karnauhov helped the audience to feel the importance and mystery of the event described. And the songs by B.Okudzhava and S.Nikitin created the New Year atmosphere. We thank all the participants of the lecture and invite everyone to the following conversations, which will continue in February, 2019.
