VyatSU took the 2nd place in qualifying stage of the All-Russian Rugby-7 Universiade

Last weekend the qualifying stage of the IV All-Russian Rugby-7 Universiade was organized in Ulyanovsk. Six teams from the Volga and Ural federal districts took part in it. Kirov region was presented by rugby players from Vyatka State University.

Our students had to compete with the teams of Chuvash State University (Cheboksary) and the host of the tournament Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University at the group stage. Vyatka State University managed to win both games: 26:19 against CSU and 19: 0 against USPU. As a result – the 1st place in the group.

Their rival for the semifinal was the team of the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin (Ekaterinburg). Taking the advantage in the first half the students of Vyatka State University won with a score 33:26. The final game was played with the team of Perm State National Research University. Losing after the first half, VyatSU athletes failed to change the situation. As a result the Urals-Volga region was given silver medals. Having taken the 2nd place our students successfully passed the selection to the final part of the IV All-Russian Universiade for rugby-7, which will be held on July, 2-5 in Belgorod.
