The Department of design and engineering disciplines was established in 2002. Candidate of pedagogical Sciences, senior lecturer Elena E. Simonova, was appointed as the head of the Department.
From 2003 to 2005 the Department was renamed the Department of design and fine arts.
In 2005, the Department of design and fine arts was separated into the Department of design and the Department of fine arts.
September 2009 the Department of design and the Department of fine arts were merged into one department, the head of the department was appointed Galina Nikolaevna Nekrasova.
April 2016 - the department became a part of the Faculty of Technology, Engineering and Design of the Polytechnic Institute of Vyatka State University.
The Department of Design and Fine Arts trains specialists in the following areas of training:
- Design (Profiles: Environment Design, Graphic Design)
- Pedagogical Education (Profile: Visual Arts., Additional Education)
- Pedagogical Education (Profile: Visual Arts)
Research areas:
• Improving the teaching system of academic drawing in design education;
• Modern lesson of the fine arts: design, implementation and analysis technology in the context of GEF implementation;
• Creation of a modern methodological system of artistic and technological preparation of schoolchildren on the basis of the meta-subject approach;
• Development of design projects for socially significant objects of the city and the region.
