Search squad "Torch" returned from the "Memory Watch"

From September 16 to October 2, the VyatGU Torch search team took part in the next search expedition of the All-Russian Memory Watch - 2012 to search for and bury soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. The expedition took place on the territory of the Starorussky and Poddorsky districts of the Novgorod region.

The detachment found and exhumed the remains of six soldiers of the Red Army. They did not have mortal medallions and registered personal items, so it was not possible to establish the identity of the Red Army soldiers. Two soldiers were found with “Guard” badges, another was found with a large number of ampoules, a medical tourniquet, pills and potassium permanganate in test tubes - most likely, it was a nurse or nurse.

On the last day, two temporary burials were made. In the spring of 2013, the Red Army soldiers will be interred at the Sambatovo military memorial in the Poddorsky district. The remains of German soldiers will be buried at the German cemetery in the village of Korpovo, Starorussky district.

The detachment also discovered an emergency landing site for a Soviet aircraft, presumably an I-15 fighter. The remains of the pilots were not found near the plane, in all likelihood, they managed to survive.

In the spring of next year, the Fakel search team of Vyatka State University plans to continue working in the area of the village of Vyazki on the border of the Starorussky and Poddorsky districts of the Novgorod region. Last time, the remains of 71 Red Army soldiers were found there. During the years of work of the detachment (since 2000), the remains of 419 Red Army soldiers were discovered and buried..

For reference: the main task of the expedition is reconnaissance and search for places for spring prospecting. As a result, a fairly large area was surveyed. These are the places where in March-April 1943 several Soviet airborne divisions attacked in turn as part of the Polar Star operation. These divisions passed through narrow dry strips of land separated by swamps. Soviet troops sought to break through to the city of Staraya Russa, but they could not be released. The enemy in this area also suffered huge losses. During the reconnaissance, the remains of 7 soldiers of the German army were found. During the exhumation, two death tokens were found, thanks to which it will be possible to establish the names of German soldiers.
