Kirov scientists have developed a technology for the production of thermal insulation from plastic bottles

And the environment is not offended, and the industry is in the black. Kirov scientists have developed a technology for the production of heat and noise insulating materials from used plastic bottles.

The essence of the technology is quite simple. Plastic bottles in the laboratory decompose into the original chemical components, from which a new material is then assembled.

MIKHAIL VOKHMYANIN, RESEARCH STAFF OF COMPETENCE CENTER "POLYMER MATERILS" VYATGU:

“Initially, the bottle is crushed to such crumbs - it’s called flex. After that, it undergoes chemical destruction, chemical destruction. And after that, this white powder is obtained, which is purified. And already from this white powder you can get such a foamed heat-insulating material”.

The resulting material is called polyurethane foam. This, for example, is a well-known foam rubber.

KIRILL SYSOLYATIN, CORRESPONDENT:

“From 54 one and a half liter plastic bottles, 1 cubic meter of polyurethane foam is obtained. For clarity, from such a small bottle, such a sample will turn out.

Companies producing and selling various foamed materials have already become interested in the development of Kirov scientists. This is largely due to the fact that the new technology is able to replace imported analogues that are difficult to access today.

MIKHAIL VOKHMYANIN, RESEARCH STAFF OF COMPETENCE CENTER "POLYMER MATERILS" VYATGU:

“Basically, this is a new component that allows you to adjust properties. That is, it allows you to make both rigid foams, heat-insulating, and soft ones, like foam rubber. All this is regulated by the amount and composition of the foam itself.”

Scientists hope that the development will be put into production as early as next year.
