On January 28-31, the 6th International Conference of Young Researchers of Russia in Computing and Electronics ElConRus-2019 was held at the St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI". The conference was organized jointly with the National Research University MIET (Moscow), the University of Glyndur (United Kingdom) and the Russian Northwest Section of the International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE.
More than 1000 applications were submitted for participation in the conference. Then a serious two-stage review took place, which resulted in the selection of the best projects of young scientists from 13 countries, representing 102 universities and 47 leading scientific organizations in the field of computer technology, electrical engineering and electronics.
Addressing the conference participants with a welcoming speech, Anastasia Minina, the Vice-Rector for International Activities of the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” told about the history of the university, its outstanding scientists Alexander Stepanovich Popov and Zhores Ivanovich Alferov, today's partnerships, as well as about the main research directions of LETI: info-, bio- and techno- sphere.
The conference was held in the format of plenary and breakout sessions, during which over 360 presentations were given on computer hardware and software, micro- and nanoelectronics, telecommunications and electro-optics, electrical engineering and automation, biomedical and environmental engineering, and information security.
Two young researchers from the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering represented the Flagship University of the Kirov region. All of them are carrying out research and development under the guidance of the
Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic Computers Vasily Meltsov.
A fourth-year postgraduate student, Aleksey Kuvaev, made a presentation entitled “Designing an Operational Device for an Inference Engine and Its Implementation on the base of FPGA” for the section “Components, circuits, devices and systems”. The project “Features of decoding a transponder signal of an aircraft vessel using FPGA” on the same section was presented by a 3rd year student Alex Lapitsky - for him this was the first experience of speaking, and immediately on such a significant forum!
Of particular concern was the fact that the speeches and discussion of the reports were held in English. Both representatives of VyatSU successfully coped with this task, having gained invaluable experience in presenting their developments to a highly qualified audience in accordance with the standards of international organizations.
ElConRus-2019 is the largest scientific and technical conference of young researchers in Russia. Since last year, in addition to LETI SPbSETU, the conference has been held at the site of the National Research University MIET.
The scientific articles of the conference participants will be published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library and will be indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus international scientific citation indexes.
